"Treating the wounds of Hong Kong's Health Care System"
At this webcast, Mercer looked at the Hong Kong government’s proposals for health care reform in its research paper “Treating the wounds of Hong Kong’s health care reform”. The following issues unravelled in the research paper were discussed:
- The huge administration costs involved in setting up a scheme to distribute the HK$50 billion which will eat into the fund
- Rising health care inflation - it is forecast to spike by between 6% and 18% this year
- The winners and losers of the health care reforms
- Employers' role in providing adequate benefits for staff
- The advantages of using flexible benefits (flex) for a diversified workforce
Rose Kwan and Margie Wong discussed the complexity of these reforms, how it affects an ordinary, typical Hong Kong household, and what employers can do for a win-win outcome.
